TOK SYLLABUS CHANGES 2020/2021
TOK has a new syllabus which focuses more on the core theme of knowledge and the knower. This syllabus is different in terms of internal assessments and content. Instead of a presentation, students will have to complete an exhibition of three items which are connected to knowledge and based on an exhibion prompt (see TOK exhibition prompts). Additionally, there is an essay on a given question which answers a knowledge question in one of the 5 areas of knowledge. Prompts and TOK key concepts are given by the IBO and cannot be changed or altered.
The new syllabus allows students to explore knowledge questions instead of formulating them. The areas of knowledge to be explored in 5 compulsory sections are history, human sciences, mathematics, natural sciences and the arts. In each of these areas of knowledge (AOK) the core themes of scope, perspectives, methods and tools and ethics will be discussed. However, 2 additional themes will be chosen by your teacher. The options for this are knowledge and technology, knowledge and language, knowledge and indigenous societies, knowledge and religion, and knowledge and politics.
The grading system is based on a 30 points system which is divided between the extended essay and the two TOK assessments. The rubric is shown below (click to enlarge).
